About us

Tax can be a complex and often challenging environment – even for experienced advisers!  Navigating your way through this tricky landscape can be a daunting and sometimes uncertain experience. At Wilcox Expatriate Tax we understand the challenges faced by individuals and companies when it comes to dealing with expatriate tax matters and we therefore strive to provide clarity, support and assurance in what can otherwise be a complicated area.

Richard and Debbie Wilcox have a combined 50+ years’ expatriate tax experience advising on all manner of associated UK and US compliance and advisory matters. Much of this experience was gained in senior roles in expatriate and global mobility teams within the Big 4 and mid-tier accountancy firms in London. Through that vast experience, they have identified three key elements to a successful client/adviser relationship and these are the core values upon which the business is based;

  • Trust
  • Transparency
  • Support

In addition to a comprehensive in-house UK and US tax compliance and advisory service offering, they are supported, where necessary, by a trusted group of domestic advisers. This, coupled with their membership of the Association of Independent Expatriate Tax Practitioners (AIETP), means that they are also able to provide assistance on some of the more specialist, and related areas of tax advisory such as share schemes, PAYE, employment tax, pensions and social security together with access to an international network of advisers where more local based knowledge is required or appropriate.

Wilcox Expatriate Tax ensure that all clients receive a thorough and truly personal service irrespective of the nature or complexity of the project being undertaken.

Whatever the nature of the query or advice required, we will always endeavour to do our very best to achieve maximum client satisfaction. For us, there is a huge emphasis on providing clear, accurate and efficient advice whilst also ensuring that our clients receive the personal service expected.

As a UK and US dual handler, Debbie’s experience spans over 25 years and with her team, she is able to advise on the complexities of the US tax system.  Debbie’s portfolio is varied and includes US nationals and green card holders – either living in the US or abroad, or those living or working temporarily in the US.

Whilst working within both Ernst & Young and PriceWaterhouseCoopers, including a period on secondment in the US, Debbie worked predominately on global mobility programmes for large multi-national businesses, before continuing to further her career with BDO where she focussed on US and UK tax advisory for smaller companies and private clients, assisting with the intricacies of the US and UK tax systems.

Debbie specialises in assisting private clients with their US tax obligations including the filing of US Federal and State tax returns and Foreign Banking forms. She is also experienced in assisting those who may have a historic filing requirement in the US and want to bring their affairs up to date through the streamlined filing process.

"It’s vitally important to me that my clients know that I am their adviser, not just the senior person on the job signing things off. I am the one that will speak to them on the phone and respond to their emails. I am the one that will prepare their return or provide advice on a complicated technical matter. This, for me, is the key to a successful client/adviser relationship."

With over 25 years’ experience in the expatriate tax arena, advising both corporate and private clients, Richard enjoys the challenges of managing his varied client portfolio.

Having spent the former part of his career with Ernst & Young, he gained an in-depth knowledge of expatriate matters whilst working with large multi-national organisations, before he moved on to focus on mid-tier companies with small to medium sized international workforces and individual private clients with BDO.

Whilst comfortable working with both individual private clients and high net worth individuals, Richard also specialises in assisting companies moving employees cross border and has experience of the associated tax and social security matters commonly associated with the movement of individuals into and out of the UK including; pre-arrival/departure advice, remittance and bank account structuring, payroll operation, and short term business visitor compliance.

"Clients come to us because they need our specialism. Understanding tax as a non-tax person can, for some, be a real challenge. I like to communicate with clients in simple language and at a basic level wherever possible so that they can understand tax issues without the need to complicate matters with unnecessary jargon or terminology."
